82nd Castle Rock Starlighting Ceremony Saturday, November 17th
The holidays are here! Well, it depends on who talk to you and your opinion of when the holidays officially start. But in this town, the holidays start with the Starlighting! Saturday, November 17th marks the 82nd Castle Rock Starlighting Celebration in downtown Castle Rock. Since 1936, thousands have gathered downtown to kick off the holiday season with the lighting of the town’s famous star that sits atop The Rock and the tradition continues with a day full of events.
A Day Full of Holiday Cheer!
The Castle Rock Starlighting festivities start with the season-opening of Rink at The Rock at 11am. After a day of skating, enjoy music, hot chocolate, stroll downtown and visit vendor booths and local shops, you can even take your kids to see Santa. The holiday celebration is from 2-7 pm with entertainment on just about every street corner throughout downtown. Then, of course, the entire day culminates with a fireworks show and the lighting of the star on top of The Rock at 5 pm. Click here for a complete list of entertainment and schedules.
Take A Shuttle To and From The Meadows
This event gets a little crazy downtown; literally the entire town shows up and most streets leading into downtown will be blocked off from 1:30 PM – 8:00 PM for the celebration making parking a challenge. Meadows residents can avoid the hassle of driving/parking downtown and instead take a shuttle from Castle View High School (5254 N. Meadows Drive). There will be two shuttles taking families downtown throughout the afternoon and evening from 1:30- 8:30 pm. Shuttles will pick you up in the North Lot (student parking lot at) CVHS and then drop you off downtown. When leaving the event, please look for the buses labeled MEADOWS as other shuttles will be transporting people to various locations. If you want to try to park downtown there is limited space in the parking garage on Jerry and 3rd street. Also, handicap parking is available on a first come/first served basis in the north side parking lot of the Douglas County Building. However, it’s highly recommended that you take a shuttle from CVHS. Your car will be towed at your expense if you’re busted parking on one of the closed sections. View the road closures here.
