Kids In The Kitchen: Get Your Kids Cooking

Kids in the Kitchen

Get Your Kids off Electronics and Into The Kitchen This Summer!

Are you looking for a new and fun experience for your kids this summer? How about getting them into the kitchen for a few lessons on cooking? This summer, The Grange is offering a fun series of cooking classes that will allow your kids to learn their way around the kitchen under the watchful eye of a professional. Kids in the Kitchen will allow your kids to learn how to make a variety of foods, from breakfast to dinner and even a delightful dessert.

So, what’s on the menu?

June Kids in the Kitchen Class – Hand Pies

As a starter to the series, your kids can try out a class before getting into a series. On June 15, your kids, ages 9-13 will step into the kitchen to make scrumptious hand pies. Kids will make, and be able to bring home, a few fruit-filled pies to share. This class will be on Saturday, June 15, from 10 am -12. The Cost is $35 for residents and $45 non-residents. Register by Saturday, June 8.

July Kids in the Kitchen Class Series

If your child wants to take their cooking to the next level register for a series of four classes in July.

Class 1 – Wed. July 10 – Meatloaf and Twice Baked Potatoes

The first class will get your child comfortable in the kitchen. They’ll learn about knife and food safety, and the proper way to set up a work station. Your kid will walk out of this class with an understanding of the kitchen and how to be safe. While learning safety, kids will be making an individual Meatloaf with a side of Twice Baked Potatoes.

Class 2 – Wed. July 17  – Omelets, Roasted Potatoes and Fruit Salad

The knife skills will get sharpened (see what I did there?) in class two as the students move to make a breakfast plate that will feature proper knife cuts. They’ll create omelets, potatoes and fruit salads.

Class 3 – Wed. July 24 – Lasagna and Garlic Bread

Class three features another dinner. This time kids will cook a classic Italian lasagna. Students will have the opportunity to make their very own homemade tomato sauce. After making their sauce, kids will incorporate it into their lasagna.

Class 4 – Wed. July 31 – Watercolor Cakes

The series fittingly wraps up with dessert. Kids will learn the art of baking while making a layered cake and buttercream from scratch. They’ll show off their creativity by learning how to create a watercolor effect for decoration — the perfect ending to a delicious series.
