Beating the Winter Blues with Kids
Winters in Colorado are unpredictable to say the least. One day it’s 60 and you’re jogging in shorts and a t-shirt and before you know it you’re in the middle of a week where the high is 5 and it’s snowing. With temperatures varying, how do you keep yourself and your kids occupied? Here are some ideas that might help you overcome those nasty winter blues.
How About a Movie?
Conveniently, Castle Rock’s movie theatre is located in The Meadows. Surrounded by several restaurants, a trip to see a movie is perfect for a weekend afternoon.
Too Cold to go Anywhere?
There are plenty of activities that you can do at home with your family.
Try these fun activities:
Cooking/Baking: It doesn’t matter how old your kids are, cooking and baking is a fun hands on activity for everyone. Older kids can help measure ingredients while the younger ones can assist with the stirring.
Building a Fort: It’s amazing what a few blankets draped over boxes and chairs can do. A small fort in your living room will allow your kids to explore their imaginations in far off lands.
Have a Dance Party: What better way to let out some energy and get some exercise than to crank up the music and have an afternoon dance party. Each kid can take turns playing their own song.
Build an indoor Gym: If it’s too cold to get exercise outside than you can improvise with your own gym. Hula hoops, sit-n-spins, jump ropes are all things you can use. Set up stations and have your kids do mini circuits.
Create a Wall Mural: Allow your kids to explore their artistic side and paint a mural for your wall. Hang up a giant piece of paper on your wall and let your kids find their inner Picasso.
Weather changes in an instant around here and it’s tough to plan. With these ideas you can have a fun activity in in no time at all.
